Arrest Made in Attempted Murder and Arson Incident

Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), Homicide Bureau have arrested an individual who set a person on fire.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at approximately 6:02 p.m., MDSO uniformed deputies responded to reports of a person set on fire in the area of NW 63 Street and NW 25 Avenue.  Upon arrival, they discovered an unconscious, burned, adult male.  Miami-Dade Fire Resue (MDFR) responded and transported him to JMH Ryder Trauma Center, with at least 80% of his body burned, where he remains in critical condition.  

A witness provided deputies with a description of the subject, and while they conducted an area search, they located an adult female matching the subject's description.  She was taken into custody without incident and has been identified as 45-year-old, Tanisha Shelton.  After being interviewed by investigators, she was arrested and charged accordingly.

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Nathaniel Devon Mathis.

The investigation continues.
