MIAMI-DADE ( July 28, 2026 ) – In memory of Deputy Cesar “Echy” Echaverry, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) has adopted Echy’s spirit of giving back to his community.

Shortly after Echy’s passing, his parents decided to donate backpacks and school supplies to low-income children in their native country of Nicaragua on the anniversary of his death. Inspired by this example, RID has partnered with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to donate backpacks and supplies to children and their siblings who are hospitalized, some for prolonged periods of time. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has been instrumental in the care of children of deputies within the RID unit and throughout the agency.  As such, MDSO thought it was a fitting partnership.
