The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), Homicide Bureau is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a juvenile.

According to investigators, uniformed officers with the Florida City Police Department (FCPD) responded to reports of a shooting at a residence.  Upon arrival they discovered a five-year-old female with an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the torso, and one of the responding FCPD officers drove the victim and her biological mother to Homestead Baptist Hospital.  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue then airlifted the child to HCA Florida Kendall Trauma Center, where despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.  

The preliminary investigation additionally revealed the residence had five occupants at the time of the shooting. There were two juveniles, a four-year-old male, sibling to the five-year-old victim, and three adults, one of whom is the biological mother of the children. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, and the scene is limited to the residence.  Investigators are not looking for any individuals that may pose a threat to the community.

The investigation continues.  

UPDATE #1:  After an extensive investigation, detectives have arrested the 5-year-old's mother, Ashley Hosendove, and she was charged accordingly.
