Northwest District General Investigations Unit, is investigating a street takeover incident that resulted in a deputy sustaining minor injuries.

According to investigators, while responding to an illegal street takeover, an MDSO deputy attempted to take one of the subjects into custody. During the encounter, a second subject launched a live firework directly at the deputy.

The firework exploded in close proximity to the  deputy, causing a minor burn to the deputy’s hand. Both subjects immediately fled the area northbound on NW 77 Court in an unknown vehicles.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identities of the individuals involved is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
