On Monday, June 15, 2026, just after 10:00 a.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) deputies responded to the area of SW 87 Avenue and SW 61 Street regarding an explosion.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a large amount of smoke and began evacuating people in the immediate area.  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded and pronounced one adult male deceased on scene.  MDFR transported three adult males to a local hospital.  One of the adult males is an MDSO Lieutenant, who is in stable condition.  Another adult male is in critical, but stable condition and the other is in stable condition.  An additional adult male transported himself to a local hospital, he is also in stable condition.

MDSO Homicide detectives have assumed the investigation.  MDFR, along with the State Fire Marshall’s Office, will be investigating the cause of the explosion.  No further information is available at this time.

Through the course of the investigation, the MDSO Homicide Bureau has preliminarily identified the deceased below.  However, due to the nature of the incident, formal identification is still pending.  The investigation continues.
