Subject Taken into Custody Following Shots Fired Incident at Miami International Airport

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at approximately 4:05 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Airport District deputies responded to the area surrounding Miami International Airport regarding reports of shots fired.

According to investigators, an unknown adult male subject discharged several rounds in the direction of a nearby garbage container. Responding MDSO deputies immediately arrived at the scene, located the subject, and took him into custody without further incident.

There is no active shooter and no ongoing threat to the community. No injuries were reported.

MDSO Homeland Bureau detectives and Airport General Investigations Unit detectives have responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

MDSO reminds the community that if you observe suspicious or concerning activity, do not hesitate to call 911 or notify an MDSO deputy.
