The Deadly Cost of Impaired Driving
MIAMI-DADE (August 27, 2026)– On Saturday, May 9, 2026, just after 9:00 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Northside District deputies responded to the intersection of NW 22 Avenue and NW 50 Street regarding a traffic crash.
Upon arrival, deputies located the crashed vehicles and an unresponsive adult male. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced the male deceased.
MDSO Traffic Homicide detectives assumed the investigation and determined that Mr. Kareem Johnson failed to stop at a red light and struck the side of the victim’s vehicle. Mr. Johnson was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash.
Mr. Johnson was arrested and charged accordingly.
In a separate incident, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, just after 7:20 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Midwest District deputies responded to the intersection of SW 57 Avenue and SW 29 Street regarding a traffic crash.
Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle that crashed into the wall of a residence. Inside of the residence, deputies located an unresponsive adult male. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived on scene and pronounced the male deceased.
The driver of the crashed vehicle was Mr. Allen Matis, who exhibited signs of impairment.
MDSO Traffic Homicide detectives assumed the investigation, which revealed that Mr. Matis failed to stop at a stop sign and was driving at a high rate of speed. Mr. Matis also had a blood alcohol concentration that was above the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Mr. Matis was arrested and charged accordingly.
