The Takeover Ends Here: Organizer Arrested
MIAMI-DADE (August 28, 2026)– On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Homeland Security Bureau (HSB) detectives arrested Mr. Darrin Marcos Lopez.
Mr. Lopez has been identified as the organizer of multiple intersection takeovers in the past two months throughout Miami-Dade County. This includes the following incidents:
· July 5, 2026, at 1:23 a.m., which resulted in a Deputy injured
· July 5, 2026, at 3:39 a.m., which resulted in three individuals injured
· August 1, 2026 – August 2, 2026, which resulted in the arrests of four individuals
Mr. Lopez utilized Instagram, under the handle of sofloboyz.us., to organize these incidents.
Mr. Lopez was arrested and charged with 19 felonies and 10 misdemeanors. His vehicle was also towed for 30 days per Florida statute.
Intersection takeovers are illegal gatherings where drivers block intersections to perform dangerous stunts, such as spinning donuts, drifting, and street racing, while large crowds gather nearby. These reckless events put participants, spectators, and innocent motorists at serious risk of injury or death, disrupt traffic, and create unnecessary hazards for our community.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate intersection takeovers and will continue to take decisive enforcement action to hold those responsible accountable and keep our roadways safe.
