The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) is partnering with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) through a state-funded traffic safety grant aimed at reducing speeding, aggressive driving, reckless driving, and other dangerous traffic behaviors throughout Miami-Dade County.

As part of this initiative, deputies from MDSO’s Air Support Unit (ASU) and Motorcycle Unit (MU) will conduct targeted traffic enforcement operations in areas where speeding, traffic crashes, and aggressive driving have been identified as ongoing concerns.  The goal is to improve roadway safety, encourage responsible driving habits, and reduce preventable crashes.

These operations will take place at various locations across Miami-Dade County and will focus on violations that place motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users at risk.

In addition to enforcement efforts, MDSO encourages motorists to:

• Obey posted speed limits
• Maintain a safe following distance
• Avoid aggressive driving behaviors
• Stay focused and eliminate distractions while driving
• Share the road responsibly with all users

MDSO remains committed to working with community partners to enhance traffic safety and reduce dangerous driving behaviors across the county.

Safety Reminder

A citation can be costly, but the consequences of reckless or aggressive driving can be far greater.  Slow down, drive responsibly, and help keep Miami-Dade County’s roads safe for everyone.

UPDATE #1: 

MDSO's ASU and MU conducted 58 details over the course of six months which resulted in the following:  

• 2,545 citations issued
• 3,100 contacts with motorists
• 9 arrests 
• 2 felonies
• 2 misdemeanors
• 4 bench warrants 
• 1 DUI 

In addition to proactive traffic enforcement, MDSO deputies attended community events to explain the dangers of excessive speeding and aggressive driving. MDSO also partnered with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) during the Southern Slow Down Campaign. This collaboration with FHP was conducted on the Turnpike, Palmetto and local expressways.
